Sewing Classes in September
Sewing machines are available to use at the studio, or feel free to bring your own. Intro classes are perfect for beginners!
Saturday September 12 | 11-1 pm
This class is designed as your introduction to sewing from the ground up.
You’ll learn how to confidently use a sewing machine, including threading, bobbin winding, troubleshooting, and understanding basic machine control. From there, we’ll move into simple stitching exercises that help you develop comfort with fabric, speed, and direction.
The focus of this level is familiarity with processes: learning how the machine feels, how fabric responds, and how you begin to use both easily.
You’ll be able to complete a small finished project - a tote, set of cloth napkins, or little pouch - if you decide to take only this class. If you decide to attend an intermediate class afterwards, such as a makeup bag or quilted bow bag workshop, you will be able to use the foundational skills from the intro class, to complete a more complex project by building on it each time!
I’m always happy to work with you on a longer project like bikinis, garments, or in private lessons as well.
You’ll leave with:
A completed beginner project
Foundational machine sewing skills
Confidence to move into Intermediate Classes or continue independently
Studio address + directions will be sent via email after booking.
Our studio is located in Golden Hill, San Diego.
When booking, make sure you use an email you can access, as all correspondence from the studio will go to that email.

quilted makeup bag sewing ♡
if you’ve taken intro to sewing or are already comfortable using a sewing machine, this could be your next project! in this workshop, you’ll create your own fully lined quilted makeup bag while practicing some new techniques and building on the skills you already have.
we’ll work with quilting and layered fabrics, learn how to install a zipper, sew curved and structured seams, and put everything together into a cute finished bag. it’s a fun next step if you’re ready to move beyond the basics and try something a little more involved without jumping into anything too intimidating.
you’ll get to choose from a selection of fabrics and leave with a handmade makeup bag that you can actually use every day or gift to someone else!
this class is on the beginner end of intermediate sewing and is best suited for anyone who has completed intro to sewing or simply feels comfortable using a sewing machine. we won’t be covering the basics of how to use the machine, so as long as you already know your way around one, you’re ready!
all materials are provided.
studio address + directions will be sent via email after booking.

spend a cozy fall afternoon sewing something cute for your kitchen! in this 2-hour workshop, you’ll have the option to make quilted coasters, oven mitts, or both, neither project is super long so you’ll likely have time for both or another set of either one :)
choose from a selection of cute fabrics at the studio and create something for your own home, or make a set as a thoughtful handmade gift. this is a fun, open-ended sewing workshop where you’ll get to practice your skills while working on a project that’s actually useful.

New this fall! Locals’ Summer
Swimwear Sewing Classes
Choose your favorite swimwear pattern and fabrics from our selection, and I’ll pre-cut everything for you before class. Then, come sew your swimsuit, customize it with your favorite details, and add fun charms to make it your new favorite swimmie!
saturday september 26 • 11 am - 2:30 pm ♡
san diego summer doesn’t end when august does… as we know, september, october, and even november can be some of the best beach months of the year, so we’re celebrating locals summer here at golden spiral studio by sewing our own swim pieces!
in this intermediate sewing workshop, you’ll create your own handmade swimwear. there will be a variety of different styles to choose from, so you can select a pattern that feels like you and create something you’ll actually want to wear to the beach. One pieces, as well as two pieces. see photos for reference.
once you book, i’ll send you an email to collect your sizing and fabric preferences ahead of the workshop. i’ll pre-cut all of your fabric pieces before you arrive, so instead of spending the class measuring and cutting, we can jump right into the fun part: sewing your swimsuit.
we won’t be using sergers in this class - we’ll be using regular sewing machines, and all of the patterns we’re working with are designed to be sewn without a serger. one of my biggest goals with this workshop is to show you that sewing swimwear is actually much more accessible than it might seem!
this class is best for anyone who is already comfortable using a sewing machine and ready to try something new. if you’ve taken intro to sewing at the studio, you should be ready for this next step!
you’ll leave with a handmade swimsuit, new experience sewing with stretch fabric, and hopefully the confidence to make another one on your own.
all materials are provided, and no serger required ♡
studio address + directions will be sent via email after booking.

please use an email address you have access to when booking, as all studio correspondence and your sizing/fabric questionnaire will be sent there!!
